EstudUSP

Overview

Estudusp is a platform that students at the School of Arts, Sciences, and Humanities can use together. It originated from a project in an undergraduate course.

Basically, Estudusp lets students ask and answer questions about the subjects they're studying. This means they have a dedicated space to discuss and get help with their coursework.

First steps

We started by doing a survey to check if our problem was real. We asked students about how they study and what they like.We got 72 answers. About 80% of the students said they would find a public study collection really helpful. Also, about 44% said they've never added to one because they don't know how.

After that, we wrote user stories about how different users might use our platform. This helped us figure out what our platform should do. We came up with about 8 stories and decided on some features like: being able to ask questions and answer them without your name showing, filtering questions by teacher, giving likes to questions and answers to show what's popular, and adding a button for "I have the same question" to see how many students have the same doubt.

We had lots of ideas for this project, but we chose to concentrate on the most crucial one at the time. This decision considered the limited time we had for project development, which was about 4 months.

Design Process

For the design, we chose colors based on the University of São Paulo (USP) theme, mainly using different shades of blue for the elements. We organized all the colors in Figma using variables. This made it easier to create both light and dark themes, which users can choose on our platform.

Additionally, this approach made coding smoother and more efficient. We used a token system with names that made sense for the colors, making the whole process more organized.

Outcome

The platform is now live and students have given it a positive reception. Our next steps involve gathering feedback from users to better understand their experience. In the future, we plan to introduce additional features to make EstudUSP even more comprehensive and beneficial for students.
